This past Saturday (06-12-14) the 48 Parklands Jog and Run members registered with parkrun brought their combined total runs to 1,400 which amounts to an impressive 7,000km ran.
Parkrun is a free weekly timed 5k run held all over the world at 9am every Saturday (event on Christmas Day. In May 2012 we were lucky enough to have one set up in our home town of Northampton, an event many of our members rise early every Saturday morning for. With a 9am start in the local racecourse park right in the centre of town it’s the perfect way to get the weekend going.
8 of our members are in the parkrun 50 club having attended over half a century of runs and one, Becky Dixey is in the exclusive 100 club having now attended at incredible 112 runs.
As well as our home town event our member have attended parkruns all over the UK as far away as Plymouth and Scotland and around the globe in Florida, USA & Latchi, Cyprus. We also took 17 members to the first ever Daventry event last month.
As well as running many of our members also volunteer each week to make sure the event runs smoothly and we also provide pacemakers regularly. It’s an event that so many of our members have benefited from in so many ways and will continue to do so hopefully for a very long time. Here’s to another 7,000km!
